In the Clutch

 

 This is one of the September/October 2011 crochet projects that I had planned and it's only March 2012, LOL.  Actually it has been completed for sometime, I just had other interest that drew me away from posting it.  The crochet clutch is made of Red Heart Boutique Changes, it changes texture six different times, its like six yarns in one.  I chose the pattern from Crochet Today magazine because I missed out on the Missoni for Target campaign, so I used that as inspiration for the clutch.

 I love pencil skirts they show all the right curves and hide all the wrong ones, ha.  It is made out of black stretch denim.  The skirt is a Simplicity pattern but I don't remember the number.

This long forgotten project came thru in the clutch because I had not posted since February.  See what I did right there, "In the clutch", because I made a clutch! LOL.

There Is A First Time For Everything

This is my first dress that I have completed and I could not be more happy. It is also my first Copy Cat, meaning I saw the outfit  and then I made it for myself. The inspiration came from the photo shoot Jill Scott did for Ebony Magazine.  I am no professional but I think my version came pretty close.  What do you think?

I made and wore this dress for my 6th wedding anniversary weekend, that made it even more special.  I received several compliments and a lot of looks, you never know what a look means though, LOL, could be good or bad.  I felt confident and sexy that night.  I will wear this outfit again.

I do have one confession to make.  I still have a lot to learn about putting in a zipper!  That invisible zipper is anything but what it should be.

The dress is made out of stretch denim and a modified Butterick pattern.  The jacket is made out of redheart soft yarn and designed by The Double Stitch Twins.

Simple Tank Top and Crochet Sash Belt

I gave the tank top I made a month ago, the one where I was supposed to add a crochet trim to the neckline, the one I gave up on and filed it away as a craft fail, the one that left me un-inspired.  Well it has been given new life with a sassy little crochet sash belt.

The tank is made out of gauze fabric, very thin and airy perfect for summer.  It was not that great to work with though.  When I had to correct any mistakes by ripping out the stitches(that darn crochet trim!) the thin fabric did not hold up well, but I loved the bright color of the pink, one of my favorite colors.  The tank was made from a Butterick Pattern.

I'm giving a little hip action so you an appreciate the long fringe, hippie chic is what I like to call it, pun not intended, LOL. The sash belt is made out of Stitch Nation Alpaca Love in the colors of Fern (green), Lake (blue) and Lotus (pink).  The pattern was free at redheart.com, designed by my favs, The Doublestitch Twins. 

The sash belt is made up of really soft colors that balance and compliment the bright color of the tank.  The day I took these pics, it was my mom and auntie's birthday, they're twins, my aunt recognized the yarn because I had used it in previous project, that made me smile.  My family is really supportive of my craft.  Some people don't get it though, just today I was on my lunch break and I was working on my version of the Jill Scott jacket (see previous post) and a coworker walked up to me and said "you are too young to crochet, that is for old people".  I politely showed her what I was making and she thought is was... cute.  She then looked at the pattern and said "what does this even say", I tried to explain the different stitches, then she asked me about the numbers in the pattern and I told her it was how many times you had to do a particular stitch, then she walked away, no goodbye, nothing, LOL.  So when I finish that project, I am going to make sure she sees it, so she can eat her words, cause it's going to be Awwwwsome!

Puff Sleeve Jacket and Denim Pencil Skirt

                                                                           

I wore so much gray and black this past winter that I decided to go to a place I had never gone before.  I wanted to be live and in living COLOR.  Until I made the conscious decision to wear color (even if I was afraid), I had not realized how many non-colors I wore or just the basic color family that I stayed in.  It was mostly black, white, blue, gray and brown.  In the spring/summer I would get a little brighter, but not too much.  Pink is my fav color so I don't know how this happened to me. 

                                                                          

The crochet jacket was designed by The Double Stitch Twins (my favs) for Red Heart Yarn.  I used Red Heart Soft yarn for the purple sections, the mass retailer near me did not have the other colors I needed so I made a substitution with Caron Soft Yarn in the closest color match. 

The skirt is Simplicity Pattern 2343, which I made in a light weight denim.  I was so nervous making this skirt that it probably took me twice as long to make it as it should have.  It was going to be my first sewing project that I was going to wear outside of the house and to work no less.  Let's not forget that I was pairing it with a sweater that I handmade, geesh.

I'm very proud of that zipper, I did it by hand.  I trimmed the lapped section at the waistband a little too much, so the zipper pull is exposed, but I don't mind as it was going to be covered.  The pattern called for a hook and eye, I tried, but was too impatient for that, so I left it out, again not going to be seen, LOL.
