Copy Cat #2- Let's Go On A Vacation

How do you think my second Copy Cat turned out?  I think AWESOME!

This was a double header challenge, one of my own making- the copy cat and a Sew Weekly -Vacation challenge.  I would so wear this outfit on Vacation.  Miami White sounds good to me.

The jean vest is an refashion - my first time doing that.  The model is wearing a ball gown with a jean vest.  My skirt is tiered and made out of gauze, it's thin so I have to wear a slip under it.  I hate slips and I don't think I even own one anymore.  When I was a little girl I had one in every length, mama made sure of that. LOL.  Anybody know where I can buy a cotton slip or an easy pattern to make one?

Copy Cat # 2 -Coming Soon

Flipping thru a past issue of Essence magazine for fashion inspiration, I ran across a photo spread on unexpected ways to wear denim. The photo above caught my attention. I thought... I would wear that. I could make that!  Well, something like it.  I had the perfect pattern and fabric already and all I needed was the vest.  So I shopped around. First stop $65 for a denim jacket, nope not happening.  Second stop $40 for denim vest, again not happening.  So I went to the local vintage store (read: thrift store) and found just what I needed for less than $5.  Hey, I have seen plenty of fashionistas work thrift store items in the blogosphere, don't judge me, LOL.

There Is A First Time For Everything

This is my first dress that I have completed and I could not be more happy. It is also my first Copy Cat, meaning I saw the outfit  and then I made it for myself. The inspiration came from the photo shoot Jill Scott did for Ebony Magazine.  I am no professional but I think my version came pretty close.  What do you think?

I made and wore this dress for my 6th wedding anniversary weekend, that made it even more special.  I received several compliments and a lot of looks, you never know what a look means though, LOL, could be good or bad.  I felt confident and sexy that night.  I will wear this outfit again.

I do have one confession to make.  I still have a lot to learn about putting in a zipper!  That invisible zipper is anything but what it should be.

The dress is made out of stretch denim and a modified Butterick pattern.  The jacket is made out of redheart soft yarn and designed by The Double Stitch Twins.
