For Baby Ellen

It has been a long time since I have made a post, but I assure you that I have missed blogging.  Life just gets hectic sometimes and the best you can do is just wake up an muddle through your day.  Those days turn into weeks and weeks into months.  ARGH!  I am ready to take back the reigns.

Crochet is a stress reliever for me and one of my coworkers recently had a baby and you know what that means...baby blanket!   So I grabbed hook and yarn, found an easy pattern and I got to work.

I love making baby blankets, very sastisfying to make and those who receive them always love and appreciate them.  So, I hope mom and baby Ellen enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it.

Catching Up

CROCHET

My mom requested new dishcloths, so I whipped her up a pair.  It felt good to get my hooks going again.  I tend to crochet more in the Fall and Winter than I do in the Spring and Summer.  Fall is right around the corner so expect a lot more crochet projects.

The Sew Weekly Challenge Theme was to use the color yellow.  I had this knit fabric in my stash, it was my first and only Internet fabric purchase.  I was afraid to work with it because it is so bouncy and slinky, I did not think I had the skill to manipulate it.  It turned out pretty good.  I followed the directions from Sewing In A Straight Line by Brett Bara.

A few weeks ago I participated in another tour.  This time to benefit Alzheimer's with the Mind Over Matter cycling event.  That was some good bike riding... peaceful, beautiful scenery and people having a good time.  I saw a classic car show while I was there, that was a bonus and of course I got my tshirt.  I rode 11 miles that day.

Thanks for visiting.

The Three Little Bears Hat

I was having a bad hair day not too long ago and wanted to throw on a hat, but I didn't have one that matched my outfit and mood at the time.

Just 'cause it's a bad hair day doesn't mean it's a bad day.  I think you can look good in a hat too, its just another accessory, right? I mean, I'm not going to wear a hat if it's a good hair day, you know...

So I started to make myself a hat, but I messed up somewhere in the pattern and it was waaaaayy too small. So I said I will give it to my 4 year old niece, since she does have a set of  leg warmers  I made out of the same yarn.
It was just a lil' too small for her so i tried it on her baby sister and if fit just right.

Doesn't she look cute in her little hat?

Fresh Off the Hook Friday- Rose Earrings

I 've been so excited to show you the garments that I have sewn that I've  neglected to show you what I have crocheted in between.  So I've come up with this series, Fresh Off the Hook Fridays!  Catchy Right?  My creative mojo has been on fire lately and posting once a week, well... it's just not enough.

I made several pairs and gave them to my niece who is in high school.  A friend of hers wants a pair and a lady who owns a boutique wants to sell them in her store.  She blew me away with that news.

I Get A Kick Out of You Leg Warmers

I made three sets of leg warmers for my three youngest nieces.  They are made out of a stretchy yarn that has a touch of aloe to make it soft.  I envisioned them wearing them under their skirts and dresses to school, daycare and on play dates, to transition them from winter to spring.

This photo shoot was hard work, but well worth it.  I love looking at their photos.  I took over 200 photos and narrowed it down to these so I hope you enjoy.
The crochet pattern was taken from Crochet Today Magazine.

Little "Bow" Peep

I am currently enthralled with crocheting items for babies and toddlers, so all of the little ones in my family will reap the benefits of this phase I am going through.  This little one here likes to wear flower headbands and when I saw the pattern for the bow, I thought of her.  Isn't she just darling in her red bow.  Crocheting for babies and toddlers has it's perks, the projects work up fast and I can produce more projects.

The Stork is Coming

My brother and sister in law have a new baby boy on the way and I made my first baby blanket for their new arrival.  I'm going to love him, and squeeze him and... I forgot how the rest of the line goes, but you get the point.

I have seen so many items that I would like to crochet for him and other children in the family.  I have come out of my selfish faze that I was in this summer, when I only wanted to crochet for myself.  So expect to see a lot of crochet for the little ones.

Warrior in Pink

It's Breast Cancer Awareness Month which has come to be symbolized with the color pink.  I wanted to show my support so I picked up my hook and soft pink yarn and began to make a scarf.  I chose the classic crochet motif of the " Granny Square" because I lost my grandmother to lung cancer.  Thinking about her led me to thinking of all the people I knew who had been Cancer Warriors of any type.  The list was longer than I had imagined and the scarf was no longer a symbol to show my support, but a tribute to those friends, family and coworkers who were gone to soon.  I gifted the scarf to a friends mom who is currently fighting cancer and just celebrated a birthday.

Trendy Top Overlay

Two post back I proclaimed I was in a creative rut, that rut was followed by a stressful experience on the farm (farm = cube farm = cubicles = job).  To relieve some stress I picked up my hook and yarn, I perused the Internet for quick inspiration and I got to work.  When I finished I was stress free, well almost and I had a new garment to share with you.  More pictures after the break
