Peachy Keen Tunic

I made this last year but never got a chance to photograph it.  I just had to make something with eyelet fabric and at the same time a few of the blogs that I read were making  pillowcase dresses.  Something fairly simple for a beginner to make.  Two rectangles sewn together and of course I added a slit because I'm fast... no just kidding, so it would not pull at my hips...

This is certainly a hot weather outfit.  I feel so exposed up top with just the cording holding the garment together.  I added the belt to give it some shape. It gives it a western vibe to me. I paired it with brown leggings...

but what shoes should I wear with this?

Dear Mama

Time for a confession!  I am not good at time management or staying balanced.  I'm always at one extreme or the other.  With that being said...this is my offering for the Mother's Day challenge for the Sew Weekly . That's right, Mother's Day, which was almost two weeks ago.  I also say this because I need to spend more time with my mother.
When I went shopping for fabric for the challenge, I came across this blue and white floral. It was perfect.  You see my mom, like most moms, likes flowers and if you asked me her favorite color is blue.

In our house we had blue carpet and a white couch that had blue floral pillows, much like the fabric I made this dress with.   In one of my favorite pictures of  me and my mom, she is wearing a blue dress.  You see that blue train case...it belonged to my mom.  She recently gave it to me.  I always liked that case. It was her traveling case and now its mine. (All mine.)

this is how not  to skip rocks

It's late Saturday night and I am barely making a post for this week.  I need to focus on being a better blogger and a better daughter.

Fresh Off the Hook Friday- Rose Earrings

I 've been so excited to show you the garments that I have sewn that I've  neglected to show you what I have crocheted in between.  So I've come up with this series, Fresh Off the Hook Fridays!  Catchy Right?  My creative mojo has been on fire lately and posting once a week, well... it's just not enough.

I made several pairs and gave them to my niece who is in high school.  A friend of hers wants a pair and a lady who owns a boutique wants to sell them in her store.  She blew me away with that news.

Pink Saturday

The Sew Weekly Challenge was to sew something pink. Soooo, I had this pink knit fabric in my stash for sometime now and I knew I wanted to make this shirt with it, but I never got around to it. It was perfect for the challenge.  I finished this top moments before going out for a girls night.  It was perfect for the occasion.

Every time I lower my pressor foot I want to make a dress or a skirt, it's just my natural instinct.  I never seem to have enough of either and I wear more dresses and skirts than anybody I know personally.  I went back and forth with what to make -I have a gorgeous pink satin that is begging me to make it into a dress, lol.  However, while reading a post at Coletterie that discussed weather or not you made the type of garments that you really needed in your wardrobe.  So that told me I needed to make this shirt, because I need more casual clothes.

That's my interpretation of looking sassy.

Play Clothes

First I want to say that I, in no way, think I am stylish in these photos but I had fun making and wearing these shorts.  You see... I don't wear shorts. The last time I wore shorts was when I was a child, which is why I made them for the "Childhood" challenge over at Sew Weekly.

My favorite activity as a child, like most children, was riding my bike... my first means of transportation.  I still enjoy riding my bike and riding my bike is the only place you will catch me wearing these shorts.  LOL.

I am excited that I made my first pockets and ironically I don't use pockets because they tend to bulge when filled and when you have a pear shape that is not a good look.

What was your favorite childhood activity?  Do you still enjoy it today?

Doing Good In The Hood

I just got home from the 2012 Walk for Wishes, a fundraising event for the Michigan Make A Wish Foundation.  It was held at the Detroit Zoo, 2,800 walkers were there, the animals were out (sorry no pics).  It is roughly a 2 1/2 mile walk around the zoo.  Wholefoods provided the walkers breakfast and Cosi provided the lunches.

I have participated in events like this in the past, but I was inspired by an article in Outdoor Athlete titled "12 T-Shirts".  The author participated in one physically active event a month for one year, some charitable, some not and collected 12 t-shirts. These events always give t-shirts to the participants.  I was proud to put on my first t-shirt and support a good cause.

The Michigan Make A Wish Foundation has granted 7,000 wishes for Michigan Children.

Copy Cat # 2 -Coming Soon

Flipping thru a past issue of Essence magazine for fashion inspiration, I ran across a photo spread on unexpected ways to wear denim. The photo above caught my attention. I thought... I would wear that. I could make that!  Well, something like it.  I had the perfect pattern and fabric already and all I needed was the vest.  So I shopped around. First stop $65 for a denim jacket, nope not happening.  Second stop $40 for denim vest, again not happening.  So I went to the local vintage store (read: thrift store) and found just what I needed for less than $5.  Hey, I have seen plenty of fashionistas work thrift store items in the blogosphere, don't judge me, LOL.
